*Thursday, 20140327* *Meeting notes: Fieldtrip team at Lifepatch* Timbil, Togar, Tendjo, Fehri, Akbar, Iyok, Wawies, Ferial *Wonosadi/Tendjo* - Tendjo derived from Wonosadi village. Start to have an environment activities at his surrounding since 4-5 years ago after joining MAPALA - UPN (Student Group of Nature Enthusiast - Universitas Pembangunan Nasional). About 2 years ago he founded Green Technology with friends. - The Wonosadi area divided by two area, atas & bawah (top and under). Bawah means the village area, than atas is a forest area. From Tendjo observation in the village they still have the traditional art activities such as Gamelan, Wayang, Rinding, Gejog Lesung. Rinding is quite unique, because not so many village have this type of traditional art. There are a giant tree in this village, it's so big and people believe the age is more than 300 years. It's Mungur tree, or Javanese tamarind tree. The villagers gather and commit to taking care of the tree. Long time ago they divided the land for farming & gardening between the villagers. Than taking control & maintaining the upper hill land to be a forest/reservation area. The conservation is not an issue in the society, the villagers fused with the nature. - The upper area is Hutan Adat (indigenous forests), which the villagers keep it carefully & respected. There's the situation in the 60's when lot of tree was cut, than some of the springs die. Everybody not allowed to say a bad words, having sex, bring bad stuff, it's highly purified. During the harvest time, they have the traditional ceremony called Sadranan. The local wisdom is still strong in the villagers mind. - Green Technology did the observation for the diversity of plantation, insect, reptile and other animal. Plant some plants (eucalyptus, palm tree, soursop, manggo, etc). But most of the plantation not growing well in the upper area, because the dense of the canopy and the type of the soil, also rekate with the season. So for the upper area they now grow orchids. Other than that they also observing the diversity of bird, that they think it's nearly extinct, so they release Elang Brontok (the Changeable Hawk-eagle) also other bird (finches, pentet/bar-winged Prinia). - It's possible if there's some participants want to plant a tree, than the Green Technology team will look for the right area to plant it. - More about wonosadi village: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Desa-Wisata-Wonosadi/356614011072417 - They are still curious about how to effectivelly observe the insect diversity. But still thinking about the program they would like to offer during Hlab14. They will disscussed about this in the next meeting. - The best time to come is in the afternoon. Depart from Yogyakarta about 14.00 than arrive there at 16.00. Than about the depart time from the area will be disscussed in the next meeting. *Southern Slope of Merapi/Akbar* - The microbiology UGM since 2011 (-now) start doing *biorecovery *(not bioremediation) trough bacteria observation in the southern slope of Merapi. To see if the diversity of the bacteria species is reduced or not, the research result shown it reduced after the eruption. - Start on 2012 they start to think about how to increase the bacteria species (the nitrogen enhancer), to be in the normal diversity. The bacteria reduced because of the heat during the eruption. - So they often go there to take the sample than start planting Legume/Siratro. They choose Legumes because it's can stimulate to accelerate the growth of bacteria as the nitrogen enhancer in the soil (bacteria who can catch the nitrogen, not the plantation). Legumes had a lot protein which means lot of nitrogen. The last time they growth Legume White Spectrume, that even can catch more bacteria, also can well symbiotically with many types of bacteria. - They also looking for ways for the soil that can't be planted can be replanted because the deposition of volcanic ash. Than the plantation start growing succesfully in 2013, after one rain season. They try many ways, from making drain system, digging the vulcanic material that holding the water flow for the plantation. - The aim of the project are to accelerate the growth of the soil in Merapi area, to be synchronized with the circulation of Merapi eruption (4-5 years). Some of the short goal are already happening, but the long term is not yet. - They want to offer the remote monitoring & sensing system, to get the info of moisturization/temperature/pH who connected 30 km away. *Jogja River Project/Timbil* Research that been done os not maximum yet, ideally we collecting the data every 3-6 month. Other that not maximum is also the electronic side like biosensing, etc. This year the aim is collecting new data & mapping from the riverbanks residents, like taking sample of their well, how is the dissemination. Other things that might be interesting to do is doing a workshop that related to the water, with the riverbanks society. Because if it's only a presentation, it might just passing by in their head. Juminahan village (Code riverbanks) with Anak Wayang Indonesia did the simple mapping with the kids.. like where's the doctor position, the public well, etc. It will be interesting also to have a sharring session of what Joan research trough photos, Akbar from the sampling, Iyok with his electronic instrumentation. Hope with the other participants that used to biodesign can share the knowledge about the river. Maybe with the biosensing, not always electronic sencor. Maybe like what Marc do with the fish who has a certain sensing capability. A simple biosensors to observe the insect diversity/water animal. Continuing the collaboration for the future. Timbil also plan to meet Pak Dony (other microbilogy professor) to get the validity from the last data we had, do a simple hearing inviting stakeholder from goverment or other institution (Dinas Kesehatan/BLPH/etc). *Next Meeting: Friday, 4 April 2014, 21.00 at Lifepatch* Will talk about: 1. Slideshow presentation (max 20 frames) of each project, 2. Each venues talk about: Tendjo talk about the program they would like to share, Akbar defrag more abut the ongoing project they still do, Timbil about the planning during the fieldtrip, 3. Break down the visiting time details, 4. Other idea that might be come up in each venues.
