Sarah, I'm a member of the Lyndeborough Dems. I so appreciate getting the LTE
talking points. I have been wanting to write a letter to the editor for some
time. Recently I did a bit of research for Roger Lessard, the Hillsborough
County Chair. He needed a review of all the 2017 NH Executive CouncilMeeting
minutes to compile a record of the votes and comments of Councilor David
Wheeler. This was to be used to help Debra Pignatelli , I think. So I did that
and I really learned a lot. I would like to use some of it in a LTE, but I am
afraid of sounding too caustic. I have been told that you should save the
really caustic LTE's for the end stages of the campaign season, and write more
general letters at this stage. I don't know what to do. Can you help? Joan
Giese

Subject: [HillsboroughNHDems] LTE Talking Points 4/13/2018
Hello everyone!
Here are this week's LTE talking points. Please let me know if you'd like any
help drafting/editing letters!
Sarah
Transgender Civil Liberties
- On Monday, the Senate Judiciary Committee is set to meet regarding HB 1319 ,
a bill that would prohibit discrimination based on gender identity, after the
House passed it earlier this year
- Last session, this very same legislation was forcibly tabled by Republicans
- At the time Sununu said he had "no personal opinion" on the matter
- This is a necessary bill that would ensure that everyone, regardless of their
gender identity, was guaranteed equal rights under the law
- It's an important step that tells all transgender people that they belong and
are accepted in New Hampshire.
- Democrats have taken the led pushing this bill forward and will continue to
do so as it makes its way through the Senate
Sununu and Trump's Tax Plan
- This week the CBO estimated the Trump's tax plan will add an estimated $1.6
trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade
- In addition to these huge deficit hikes, this plan promises to raise taxes on
hundreds of thousands of Granite Staters and kick 13 million Americans off
health insurance all to give tax cuts to Trump and Sununu's wealthy family,
friends, and donors
- Our entire delegation saw how terrible this bill would be, which is why they
voted against it
- 65% of Granite Staters don't think they'll be better off under this bill
- This is the same tax plan that Sununu called "phenomenal"
- It's not really surprising that Sununu supports this fiscally irresponsible
bill after his own budget included $100m in tax cuts for the top 3% of
corporations instead of funding workforce development, job training, freezing
college tuition, or fully funding the alcohol fund
**The school voucher bill, SB 193, is set to have another work session this
week. The Finance II Committee keeps pushing back the vote because of the
incredible opposition they're facing. I'll keep you updated about the final
vote, but in the meantime, keep up the pressure!
- In the Finance II committee, Republicans added an amendment to SB 193 that
would cut public school funding by millions of dollars
- They did this by slashing the amount of money that public schools receive
when a student uses a voucher to attend a private, religious, and parochial
school
- This would particularly harm disabled students because private schools don't
have to be ADA compliant or have special needs teachers
- It is unconstitutional bc it uses taxpayer dollars to fund religious schools
- Call your state reps and call members of the finance division II committee:
Karen Umberger, Kenneth Weyler, Marjorie Smith, Mary Allen, Neal Kurk, Robert
Theberge, Daniel Eaton, and Thomas Buco to urge them to vote no on SB 193 .
HERE's how to find your state rep. HERE's the list of committee members
