I think the rule of thumb is if it fits into a trash bag, you can put it
into the dumpster.  If not, err on the side of disposing it elsewhere.

Can it be given to Goodwill or another charity?  If so, that would be
the easiest option and you can get a tax deduction.

Is it old electronics, clothing/shoes, styrofoam, or sensitive papers
that need to be shredded?  Keep Atlanta Beautiful offers recycling on
the second Saturday of every month at the Walden School (intersection of
JW Dobbs and Hilliard St).

A normal Atlanta resident has city trash service.  One week out of every
month, they can put "bulk rubbish" on the curb for pickup.  Since we
have a private trash contractor, I don't think that applies to us.

If you have trash that doesn't fit into a bag, but does fit into your
car, you could take it to the Merk Miles Transfer Station and Recycling
Center in College Park, GA.  It would probably cost $10 for them to
accept it (up to 460 pounds).

If it is too big to fit into your car, you can always Google junk
removal.  These options only make sense if you have a lot of junk to
remove at once.  For example, some search results are:

www.junkhaulingforless.com (770) 739-4043

Hey all,

Are we allowed to throw an old rug in the dumpster/outside of the dumpster
or is that prohibited material that we need to take to a junkyard on our
own?

Thanks,
Glenn
