Kelli,
I never said they were broken. I said they were left unlocked. And the reason
they were left unlocked is because they are in disrepair (at least the left
panel servicing Bldgs 100, 200 & 300), which makes it either too difficult or
impossible (apparently) for some mail carriers to secure & lock. So much so,
that in 2015 one of the carriers broke the lock trying to lock them, causing
those of us in Bldgs 100, 200 & 300 to go without mail delivery for 2 weeks
while we waited for repair.
Understand we don't always have the same carrier. And if our mailboxes are so
dysfunctional that only our usual carrier knows their intricacies and how to
lock them, then there is a problem - whether they are "broken" or not.
I was sitting outside and witnessed the mail carrier Saturday night slam the
mailbox panel repeatedly, trying to get it to lock, only to leave it unlocked
until Monday evening's delivery.
So, no - while they may be locked today, and may not be technically broken
right now - it is an issue that should be addressed before they are once again
broken and unusable.

Hi All,
I checked the mail boxes and they don't appear to be broken. The postal
carrier forgot to lock the boxes. I'll contact the post office so they can
retrain folks and make sure they lock the mail boxes.
Bill,
If they appear to be broken in anyway let us know. I could have overlooked
something.
Thanks!

Subject: Re: Mailbox System In Disrepair
All,
The mailbox panel for units in the 100, 200 & 300 buildings was once again
left unlocked by the mail carrier after Saturday's delivery (which was not
completed till after 9pm). This would be the first mailbox panel on the left
side in the mailbox alcove.
So if you live in Units 101-308, your mail is unsecured probably until
Monday's delivery.
Might be a good time to revisit this matter, as it was suggested back in July
2015 that bids would be obtained for replacement, but to date there's no
evidence this was addressed. And in December of 2015, units within those
three buildings went 2 weeks without mail delivery because of a broken panel
lock. Let's address this known issue.
