I am still working with Google to provide the service to Highland we need to
continue to gather access info.  I have weekly calls with Google regarding a #
of CMA properties.

Ive heard rumors that fiber has been halted altogether in atlanta right now....

Hi Charmant,

We are still at the stage of gathering homeowner contact info and
assessing interest.  Let me explain why we are still at this stage of
the process.

We have gathered contact information and willingness to have
infrastructure installed in 81 out of our 107 units.

When we look at a map of our buildings, we only have enough
cooperation
to get fiber installed in 59 units.

We need to reach a minimum of 60 units, so we don't yet qualify as a
neighborhood to get fiber installed.

While we are almost at the minimum, even if we reach the minimum, then
we would need 100% cooperation from the homeowners/residents who
initially consented.  For example, if it is time for the 100 building
to
get fiber installed, but some residents are a no show for the process,
then Google might abandon the project.  All parties would feel more
comfortable if we exceed the minimum.

If we could hear from the following important units, we could get this
project moving again:

207, 208
406
502, 504
902-905, 907, 908, 914
1011, 1014 (I know 1014 just moved in this week)

There are a few other units that we can't reach, but they are at the
end
of the fiber run, so there is no major impact if they don't cooperate.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi,

Has there been any update on where we are with the installation
process for
Google Fiber?

Thanks
Kai

Hi everyone,

A couple of Google Fiber staff members met with some of the building
captains yesterday to get some of our burning questions answered.
I'll
share the information I have available in a question and answer
format.

Q. Are we still on target for a 9/19-10/28 installation window?
A. No, we are still in the process of gathering contact information.
The installation window has been postponed.  Once we have gathered
enough information to set up installation in at least 60 units, then
we
can start planning for building installation dates.  I think
mid-October
will be the earliest we can expect installation to begin.

Q. What information have we been gathering?
A. We have been collecting first name, last name, email address, and
phone number for at least one person in each unit.  The assumption
is
that if we are able to collect this information, the person would be
fine with having Google Fiber infrastructure installed in their
unit.
We would then use this contact information to schedule/coordinate
installation appointments.

Q. What information do we still need to gather?
A. For each unit, we need all of the above information, plus an
acknowledgement that the owner has provided permission for
installation.
If a renter or occupant states that the owner has provided
permission,
then we will trust that the renter or occupant is being honest.
Once we
are ready to schedule installation, we will also need to know if you
will be home, someone else will be home, or if a neighbor or
building
captain has the key.

Q. What are we doing about vacant units?
A. As we have been gathering contact information, we have been
making a
list of units that we think are vacant.  We will research the owners
of
these units and send them a letter requesting their cooperation.  A
letter will be sent to the address that CMA has on file, as well as
the
mailing address of their property tax assessment notice.  We may
also
work with realtors to see if they will be cooperative (i.e. making
arrangements to leave a key with a neighbor).

Q. How many units must agree to installation?
A. We need at least 60 out of our 107 units to agree to
installation.
In addition, these 60 units must be capable of being reached by the
fiber.  For example, approximately 78 units have agreed to have
fiber
installed, however, only 58 units can currently be reached.  As a
further example, if we cannot contact anyone in unit 911 or they do
not
agree to an install, then units 911-920 are incapable of being
reached
by fiber.

Q. How will installation be scheduled?
A. When we are ready to move forward with installation, each
building
captain will reach out to people in their building to coordinate a
single installation date for the entire building.  On the day of
installation, your unit will need to be available for access between
9AM-5PM.  You may choose to be home that day, have a renter,
occupant,
or friend be at home, or entrust your key to the building captain or
neighbor.

Q. What should I expect on installation day?
A. You will receive a visit in the morning to have fiber pulled
through
the attic.  Fiber will be pulled through all attics in a building
first.
If you are in a two bedroom unit, installers will need access to the
attic access located in the master bedroom closet.  Later in the
day,
you will receive a second visit to have your fiber jack installed in
the
living room.  Fiber will be fished through the walls down to your
living
room.  The installation team will repair any damage that they cause.

Q. Can I have my fiber jack installed in the dining room?
A. No, all fiber jack installations will be located in the living
room.
The Google Fiber team wants each install to be a repeatable process,
in
order to keep up the pace.  Do keep in mind that there is already a
phone jack in the living room.  Also, if you sign up for service,
there
will be WiFi.

Q. I want to be a good neighbor, but I don't want a fiber jack
installed
in my living room.
A. It would be greatly appreciated if you would allow access to your
attic, so that the rest of the neighbors in your building can get
fiber
pulled through to their units.  You are not obligated to have a
fiber
jack installed.  Do keep in mind that this installation is free, it
increases the value of your unit, and you do not ever need to sign
up
for service.  After the neighborhood installation window ends, if
you
later decide that you want a fiber jack installed, there may be a
$100
charge.

Q. What happens if a neighbor is a no-show on the day of a building
installation?
A. Let's say that fiber is being installed in the 100 building.  If
nobody is home in unit 105 and no arrangements have been made to
leave a
key, then fiber will only be installed in units 108, 107, and 106.
The
neighbors in units 101-104 should be notified of the situation.  The
Google Fiber team will schedule another install for the rest of the
building, which is typically a week into the future.  Units 101-106
will
need to be home again for the second install.  Even though unit 106
already had fiber installed during the first install, access to
their
attic will be briefly required again to drill into unit 105.

Q. Can you schedule installs in such a way as to minimize the impact
of
one neighbor being a no-show?
A. We have put a lot of thought into this, however, the Google Fiber
team wants to work on one building at a time and they are against
the
idea of moving between buildings on a given day.

Q. Once fiber is installed, when can I sign up for service?
A. We just learned yesterday that Google is doing a pilot project in
our
area.  We should be able to sign up for service in early November,
assuming that installation is complete by that time.

Thanks,
Alex
