Thanks Christine,
I’m hoping I will just find the pages as a section of the book that just
dropped out. Trouble is the whole negative collection takes up many yards of
shelving, some of it only accessible by a stepladder!

Good news!
Tony tells me that he has now retrieved all the remaining index volumes from
the museum and hope to start scanning them in a week or two.
That means that those of you who are twiddling your thumbs won’t have too long
to wait!
However when trying to look up some negatives of the Duke of Edinburgh for the
Herald this week I discovered that they were on pages missing from the 1955
negatives book*. That reminded me that some of you had reported missing pages.
Looking at the volume scan it looks like quite a large section of pages may
have dropped (or been pulled) from the binding over the years. What I’m
wondering is if the missing sections might just be languishing unloved in the
museum store. Next time I’m there I’ll have a little furtle about and see if I
can turn them up (I’ve already got a large box of miscellaneous unindexed
negatives that I’m working through and there is some fascinating and important
stuff included amongst that which might easily have been overlooked ).
Can I please ask you all therefore to check the volumes you have worked on for
missing pages/ranges of numbers? If you can let me have them as and when, I’ll
then compile a list for when I go hunting.
Thanks,
Chris
* I found the DofE negatives because I noted the numbers from the
relevant newspaper issues in the days when they included neg numbers in the
captions. At worst we can eventually reverse built the missing index partly
once the papers have been scanned – but that is going to be a long while away I
suspect.
