Subject: [heraldnegindex] Herald negative index - what's next?
Dear all,
Amazingly you have now indexed in excess of 85,000 and I really think the end
is in sight. There is still one “book” unallocated so let me know if you’d like
to take it on.
I hope we can all meet up properly soon but it would be good if the weather was
slightly better so we can meet outside if possible. If that doesn’t look like
happening soon we can all go to the park café which is well spaced inside, warm
with a wood burner and has free parking!
However where do we go from here?
Interestingly I have a meeting with a local volunteer in photo research at the
IWM soon as there is a possibility she may be interested in helping to form a
project team to organise and lead the main digitisation project – keep your
fingers crossed!
But for the immediate future I have got permission for one person at a time to
accompany me on visits to the actual newspaper archive at the Herald to assist
with searching for stories that enquirers are asking about. I have been doing
this on a roughly two-monthly basis for the past couple of years (Rosemary has
joined me on a couple of occasions) and it is interesting if eye-watering work.
So if any of you are interested in joining in please let me know (sorry it
can’t be more than one at a time because of space reasons – it will not involve
going into the cellar though!)
Likewise in the future there may also be a possibility of visiting the Museum
of Farnham store to access the negatives (the ones you’ve been indexing!) so
that they can be scanned for enquirers. However that is a rather cool
experience but still very interesting. It is dusty and there are no seats!
