Dear all,
Finally I am able to report some progress on the full digitisation project
in which you all have been involved in taking the first steps.
This morning a meeting of the embryo Steering Committee took place at the
Herald offices and as a result we now have a project chairman (Lesley
Bunting) and a technical consultant (Hilary Roberts) who will start to work
on the project plan and forming a full steering committee.
They have identified the first step that we need to take and this is
something that they would like to invite you transcribers to take part in.
This involves taking an inventory of the materials that we plan to include
in the project so that its full scope can be properly identified. From this
they will be able to draw up a much more concise of costings both in time,
resources and funds.
I think this will interest you all because it will involve actually visiting
the archive to record what is included on a template form that Hilary will
provide. The Herald management have approved you all to visit for this
purpose if you wish to be involved. (I suspect we will also carry out a
similar exercise on the negatives in the Museum of Farnham store.)
This is only a preliminary notice but I thought you would all like to know
how things are progressing so that you are prepared if you would like to be
involved in this next stage.
I will let you know as soon as I hear more and receive the template for
recording. The steering committee will be holding monthly meetings so
hopefully the inventory will start in the very near future.
I hope you are all keeping well and enjoying the slightly better weather we
are occasionally getting! Hopefully we can have a meet up before long in the
park too.
