Subject: [heraldnegindex] Anybody struggling?
Dear all,
Rosemary has just finished another year and Karen also sent me 1976 earlier.
This means that all the index books that Tony has scanned have now been issued
and currently have no more “work” to offer those who have finished.
I just wondered if, until Tony can get any more from the museum, whether
anybody was struggling with their current volume and would like to share the
work with anybody else?
If so please let me know and I’ll set you up with a helper.
If not please just all take a break as I’m sure it won’t be long before we get
loads more bad handwriting to pore over!
The summer is coming (you might not believe it with the snow today!) and I’m
sure everybody will want to get outside more – this project can wait until the
nights draw in again if necessary.
However I believe we are getting closer to the main archiving project launching
at last. I had a meeting with the general manager of the Herald and Josh at the
museum recently and there is growing enthusiasm for this project becoming part
of a sort of relaunch of the museum. They want to make more of featuring
history from living memory as a way of attracting a new audience to the museum
and what you have all been working so hard on is bang on the money!
Once people are drawn into the museum their enthusiasm and imagination soon get
fired and they begin to delve further and further back. The link with living
memory is what brings it all to life so if we can be instrumental in helping
make that link our work will have been very worthwhile.
I don’t know how many of you use Facebook but if you can take a look at
https://www.facebook.com/HeraldArchiveProject ;(You don’t need to sign up to
Facebook to see the page I think.)
I try to post one photograph a day on that page, mainly from the negatives you
have been working on. Nearly 600 people are now following that page and the
audience is growing all the time. Obviously people like the period we are
covering.
