I seem to remember when I started at the Herald in 1971, we used to use a
fountain pen in the index books – I don’t think it was archival ink though!

Thanks Gwyneth and Christine. Yes I think you’re right and isn’t it amazing
that once someone says ‘oh it’s sack race’ or whatever you say ‘of
course’...... I must say this person’s handwriting looks like it’s done with a
quill pen as it’s rather scratchy in places.

Enjoy your walk. I’ve just cut my neighbour’s hedge (she doesn’t have a hedge
cutter) and attempted to reconstitute some coir compost which appears to be
very thirsty.
