Amazing find! Ty and I never did find it the next morning, but the LBHE and
the GREGs put on a good show along the sandbar. It is a second county
record with the first one found at Briery Causeway by Mike the day after
Hurricane Fran in 1996 <http://ebird.org/ebird/va/view/checklist/S7274303>?
The LBHE and the TRHE put us at 175 species for Prince Edward for the year
and were our only new additions since the end of May. We will have a tough
time getting to 200 but the late summer, fall, and early winter always
bring surprises. Here are some species we may still get:

White-winged Scoter
Long-tailed Duck
Common Goldeneye
Mississippi Kite
Least Sandpiper
Herring Gull
Black Tern
Common Tern
Black-billed Cuckoo
Merlin
Peregrine Falcon

There are several fisherman off the sandbar where all the egrets/herons are
so they aren't really settled in.

All,
Following a tip from Warren, Amanda and I headed out to Briery to
look for herons/egrets. While attempting to ID the small white bird, we
a small blue bird hop in front of the scope. We watched itchase/corralling
fish while hunting. It was slightly larger than the near by white bird(we
believe a little blue heron) and smaller than the great egret hangingclearer in
around. It had noticeable white on the flanks. Below are two cell phone
digi-scoped pictures from across the lake. One picture to show relative
size and the other to show the white flanks. The views were much
person through the scope at 60 mag. I have a terrible cell phone video
(very shaky through a scope) of it corralling fish.
We will try to head over in the morning.
