Dear chapter presidents,

Big news: After nine years on the Audubon North Carolina staff – and 5
years as a Forsyth Audubon chapter leader before that – I have accepted a
National Audubon Society role. Starting on Monday, I will be the Interim
Vice President for Network.

In this senior leadership role, I will report to Marshall Johnson, Chief
Conservation Officer, and serve as a close thought partner to many Audubon
leaders as we move through strategic planning, organize next year’s
convention, and continue to support chapters in growing and diversifying
their memberships and volunteer bases. I will lead the NAS Network team,
including Gregoriah Hartman, Loren Smith, Elaine O’Sullivan, and the
Audubon on Campus team.

I will remain in my beloved hometown of Winston-Salem, traveling as needed.

Your work here in North Carolina is already having a national impact – from
championing native plants years before National launched Plants for Birds,
to establishing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committees and Audubon’s
first-ever EDI cohort, you’ve helped create models that are spreading
across the Audubon network. Here in North Carolina, we’ve seen how
effective we can be for the birds when we nurture our connections with each
other at all levels of Audubon and work toward shared goals. The chance to
help spread our learnings and successes more broadly across the Audubon
network is why I decided to accept the national role, even though I will
very much miss working with you all and our North Carolina staff.

Ben Graham (ben.graham@xxxxxxxxxxx) will be your day-to-day North Carolina
contact going forward and will orchestrate the every-other-month Zoom
meetings (next up is Dec. 20 at 11 a.m.). Audubon North Carolina will be
hiring several positions very soon – keep an eye out for an announcement,
and be ready to share these opportunities with people you think may be a
good fit.

We have several more North Carolina announcements planned this week – to
chapter leaders, campus leaders, EDIB cohort members, and our advocacy
update email audience – but I wanted you all as leaders of your chapters to
be among the first to know. You are welcome to forward this note to your
board members.

Thank you for your partnership; your leadership; and all you do in service
of birds, your chapters, and your communities. It’s been a joy to work with
each of you, and I have learned a lot from you. Keep in touch – you know
how to find me.

Gratefully,

Kim
