In my experience, supporting Marvell, NVIDIA, SIS, VIA Rhine, Realtek and Intel PRO would have us mostly covered as far as modern hardware goes. For legacy hardware, add 3com 3c59x, DEC Tulip and the ever-present NE2K to the mix.
