Could this commit [1] have something to do with it? What fails is the
building of "libfs_shell.a", which is built by the rule being changed
here, "BuildLibFSShell". The change happened about two weeks ago, about
the same time my last successful build was IIRC. And it is a revert of a
change with the log message "fix the build ..." [2].

Seems it was my jam binary which was the culprit. I had copied it to the
wrong location when i rebuilt it. revertering [1] back to [2] did make
it build with the old jam binary, but when I got the new binary copied
to a folder that actually was in my $PATH, everything compiled without
problems without the need for any patching.
So, sorry for bothering the list with problems that was completely
self-inflicted. *hides in shame*
