Let's concentrate on the masses first. Haiku will probably sit along side an existing Windows installation, or most people will have their data backed up on to a Fat 16/32 or NTFS formatted drive. They'll want access to that data. It's only probably <5% of the market that are interested in Reiser, ZFS or Ext2/3.
On the other hand, a good many people that Haiku is targeting right NOW, are probably interested in ext2/3 support so that they can build/develop/test Haiku from their Linux machines. If it's easy to port, it might be a good "easy win" for current Linux users/developers who want to get involved with Haiku.
At the moment, those are the people already struggling with a free alternative to windows. They are the ones that have been willing to make the switch away from Windows. They are the ones that are probably most willing to try out another OS if it promises ease-of-use/better performance - and possibly become contributors and "spread the word" more effectively than the average Windows user.
