The issues with upgrading do not come from multi-user systems, but from system services that use node monitoring - watching your hard disk - to be informed on newer components and to load them as they become available. You can imagine that it is bad when the kernel detects a new driver for your hard disk and as such unloads the old one. That means havoc! N>
