Don't get me wrong, your proposal to work on this is very appreciated but i don't believe there's a special methodology that could help, you can't just "purge tickets in mass", based on probable invalidity. Removing bugs on unverified basis is just as bad as leaving invalid ones. Like all contributors, i'm afraid you'll have to solve each ticket one by one, or we should say, fix each problem one by one.

I must add, and it's not especially directed at you but at every one wanting to help to speedup ticket resolving, that generally an _enormous_ amount of time is spent in non coding tasks, trying to prove with certitude in which component the problem is, at which revision it appeared, how to reproduce etc. On most of the bugs i've been working on, that counted for something like 80% of the time spent, and that's something that could be done by non coders (except in some some rare cases).

Best regards,
Alex
