I still keep the documentation of my apps alongside in their folder.
You don't have to use $docDir (or $dataDir for data).
Personally, I think GUI apps should be self-contained in their folder
in the $appsDir, and those other folders should only be used for CLI
documentation etc. My suggestions in this direction didn't find
traction on the haikuports mailing list some years ago...
Note, it'd even be possible to put stuff in those $otherFolders and
put a link to it in the app's folder.
It's all in the hands of the packager, not some shortcoming of the
package managment.
