And I'd bet the Scott Lindsay is probably keeping an eye on this.
I peek in from time to time.
Recompiling GP2 would certainly be possible from a technical
standpoint. The legalities of releasing such a beast remain to be
seen, though. At a minimum, I would *think* that making it available
to registered users ought to be possible. I can't comment on GP3 for
any BeOS at this time.
One comment on BeZilla for PPC - if the BeBox and legacy Macs are
serious targets for OBOS, Mozilla is possibly too resource hungry to
be seriously considered. Granted, not the best of yardsticks, but I
run the Mac version on an 8500 2x225. AFAIK, Mozilla isn't
multithreaded under MacOS 8/9, so it's effectively a 225MHz machine.
It's barely usable. There's some things which are better than NS
4.x, but at many things it's slower. I'm not sure I even want to
imagine what Mozilla would be like on my BeBox.
Off in the realms of speculation and wild ideas -- it should
theoretically be possible to have both a PEF and ELF loader in the
same system, for BC. Of course, there's still the GCC/MWCC ABI
issue. It'd be a lot of effort, but maintaining parallel libraries
(GCC/MWCC) could work and should be fairly testable. At this point,
though, we're talking about doubling the effort required to support
at best 10% of the machines OBOS would run on.
