Good news!

Are there any decent softsynths or samplers for Haiku that could be used
with this or does it require MIDI hardware to be used?

We ship with timidity, which gets you covered for the bases (it's fully
integrated with the midi kit). You can also play with besting and SynC
Modular, both closed source BeOS apps, but they run in Haiku gcc2
version.

There is a free registration code for it somewhere, which should work
for the BeOS version as well. This was released for free by the original
author when he stopped development.

Of course you can also use MIDI hardware with Sequitur and with the
synth.
