I completely agree. I've been using Phoenix on Windows since version 0.2
(it's up to 0.5 now). It has the nice features of Mozilla (tabbed browsing
and ad blocking) with a startup time nearly as quick as Internet
Explorer. There are only a couple of things I dislike about it:
1) It still crashes on me on certain sites, and unfortunately, you can't
run multiple protected sessions like you can with IE... so when it crashes,
it takes down *all* of my Phoenix windows with the pages that are loaded
up... furthermore, my history is not saved, so recovering those pages is
not easy.
2) It doesn't seem to work perfectly with plugins (you have to tell the
plugins where it's located), also I noticed Javascript doesn't seem to work
perfectly -- on eBay's pictures, for instance, it won't load up other pics
in the window when you click on them.
Some or all of the above bugs could be due to the Mozilla codebase, and in
any event I expect they'll be ironed out by the time OBOS is ready to
roll. It even has some advantages over Mozilla aside from the reduction in
bloat -- the widgets integrate with the OS rather than doing their own
thing, and the Phoenix team is trying some interesting new ideas with
browser functionality and layout that aren't present in Mozilla (toolbar
simplification, search window, more keyboard shortcuts, etc.).
In short, I think it will make an excellent browser for OBOS -- I had that
in mind when I first started using it, in fact. Just look for it under a
different name come January and 0.6... it seems they're having the same
sorts of issues we did with their name choice.
