Has anyone done any work on porting gecko to BeOS?

Well, after discussion, here is what I suggest, based on the feedback so far.

N+

1st Choice - Will use Mozilla's, or perhaps KHTML layout engine and create an N+-clone.

One thing I think everyone needs to remember here. By the time OpenBeOS is ready to be released, Moziilla will have A LOT more development done. In its current state, on my machine, launchs just about as fast as opera, and about the same amount of time that IE and mozilla do under windows.
Yes, we don't need mail/news and all the other crap. I include it in my builds for testing purposes. These "extras" use functionality within mozilla, that just the plain browser does not use.
Making BeZilla embedded would be the best solution, no skinning. To do that, the embedding "stuff" needs to be ported to BeOS, which has not been done yet. At this point, it is a lower priority.
Why use KHTML, that's just another port, that isn't as far along as mozilla.

2nd Choice - Use BeZilla, in a OpenBeOS package with a BeOS-skin.

Only if embedding is not finished.

3rd Choice - Will re-write N+.

do you really want to do this?

PoorMan
=====

1st Choice - Will be replaced by RobinHood as was planned for Dano, unless its GPL license gets in the way for some reason.
2nd Choice - Will update port of Apache 2.x and create a PoorMan-like interface for the user, much like MacOS X does.

Please remember that BeOS is a desktop os, not a server, even though these applications CAN run under BeOS, doesn't mean that they should, at least not for R1.

3rd Choice - Will re-write PoorMan from scratch.

I think this should be the 2nd choice.

Terminal
=====

Not really an issue, we just port the new shells, and the interface.

I wouldn't go porting an shells until the kernel is done. All we need now is the interface.

BeIDE

Heh - still stuck!

There are plenty of editors out there (Eddie, emacs, whatever the user wants). For doing development, there are comercial products. CodeLiege, VisualBe, etc.

BeMail

We use Dr. Zoidberg version.

most definitely!
