I use BeIDE every time I program under BeOS, I cannot program without it! :)
Since Be distributes the IDE as an "expansion pack" we can just use this, 
assuming we have binary compatibility. If we don't we have to get to work
on something else - I cannot use vi/m for anything but writing a cvs commit
log :). I hate emacs too, so the only editor left (that I can think of) is
Pe, however this editor is closed source, and commercial.

If we decide not to recreate BeIDE, what would the alternative editor then 
be?
