You need to Haiku version of Jam, which you can get here:

http://haiku-os.org/files/jam.zip

If that still doesn't work, then someone really needs to update the
jam on the web-site :)

It would be nice to know if it works. It might have been built on
BONE, making it incompatible to R5. Could someone please check?

Why not check out the buildtools path from the repository (well, at least the jam subdirectory) and build it? It only requires make, followed by a self-installation process (./Jam0 install ?) then you should be able to build Haiku with that binary... It worked for me under Linux at least, so I imagine it would work under a BeOS flavor...
