app bundles certainly only solve some problems (and introduce a bunch

Yes, but my suggestion goes further than OS X bundles and it gets rid
of anything that could be identified as "installation" from the
end-user perspective. It would solve basically all problems I
identified when I watched users trying to (un-)install an application.
Well, we'll have to discuss this for R2...
