Morning/afternoon/evening. This whole thread completely ignores a 'recent' approach to application and package management, which IMHO completely leapfrogs the 'old' methods used on conventional desktops. AppStore. IMHO, users want a portal which ALSO allows them to purchase commercial apps, shows a ranking system, has the facility to leave application feedback, etc... And while you're at it, also allow users to chat, share non-commercial files, etc. I know, this is a Glass Elevator thing, but it completely blows the existing package management systems out of the water. It hasn't been done yet (Steam doesn't allow feedback and doesn't host free stuff). Apple's AppStore is the closest thing we have. Cheers.
