1.) Why are people on here acting like they know what the other developers want 
to do?

You'd earn more publicity, which increases your chances of getting donations. 
This is simple statistics. People can't donate if they don't first know what to 
donate to. However, I agree that more users doesn't necessarily mean a system 
is good, etc. Which brings me to my next few points:

3.) "Because this is what free software is about. It's lots of people doing
something that interests them, for fun."

Apparently, there's nothing fun about working on features that other people 
want? Rust has rfc's that users can make to get their ideas implemented into 
the language. Many *open source* projects work on features that are requested 
by users, *including* small projects (4Coder, my own projects, ...). Why else 
do you think we have GitHub issues and other bug-reporting systems? If nobody 
wants to work on this, fine - you just won't have the ability to watch Netflix 
yourself. If that's what you want, then develop the feature. If you want other 
users who want this feature to have this feature, develop it!

4.) "Try a thousand days work each by a thousand people. That is a more
realistic figure."

This is a major exaggeration. Don't be fooled people.

5.) "whataboutery" is useful. It's called *goals*. Even Haiku has a goal, or 
have you all forgotten? To be a Personal Computing OS - it's listed on the 
homepage. If your goal isn't that, but rather to be an OS *only* for the Haiku 
devs, then maybe you should change what the homepage says? Just a suggestion.

Additionally, it's very well known that the majority of Personal Computing 
involves streaming and social media - which means maybe you all should work on 
getting a decent browser first.

6.) "I'd ask you what is the wisdom in spending dozens, or hundreds, of hours 
on adding support for a third-party proprietary service when the core 
functionality of the OS is volatile?"

Can I ask you why people are spending a ton of time porting over applications 
when apparently the OS isn't "stable" enough for them? Additionally, isn't the 
beta label supposed to be used to show that the core OS functionality has been 
implemented and the next step is to stabilize it (meaning, fix bugs)? (I 
actually don't know how you all are using alpha vs. beta labels).

Does it matter much *when* this feature is implemented? Kinda. If you develop 
it now, there's a greater chance of it breaking in the future due to api 
changes, etc. However, if you start it in the future, there's less chance of it 
breaking and needing fixing. *But*, we're in Beta now, right? Not Alpha. I 
can't remember how much significance beta vs. alpha brings, as I can't quite 
remember what these labels mean to the Haiku devs.

Additionally, since when is developing an application or developing a feature 
in an application (for example, DRM in webpositive) even related to developing 
the OS? As in, is there not a separation of developers between the applications 
and the OS? And if not, is there not a difference between apps and the os. The 
apps use the API of the OS. The API is a smaller surface area of the OS that 
applications are allowed to touch, that's the whole purpose of an API.

7.) Finally, one main point I wanted to make, even if it's a small point: "If 
it was 3 hours of work, it would have been done long ago already."

This... is a complete load of crap. I hope that's all I really need to say 
about that, as it should be fairly obvious and supported by common sense, and 
anyone whose had experience with working on any project, even unrelated to 
programming, would know this.

There are a lot of reasons people didn't embrace Ubuntu when XP support ended. 
To reduce it to "Linux is hard" isn't being fair. There's not a ton of brand 
recognition outside of technical people. Heck, most people that aren't 
technical didn't care and just kept running it anyway and used whatever the 
next thing they happened to buy ran. Many people simply run iOS/Android these 
days.
