Hi guys,
I would like to offer an alternative, which I would like to call
'Haiku Knowledge' or knowledge.haiku-os.org.
My goal would be to create a central place where knowledge about Haiku
can be collected, updated and shared. However, for information to
become knowledge, it should be structured, as such a Wiki has the risk
of ending up being a dumping spot for just about anything. That is a
fear I share with others.
However, I do not want to conflate wiki software, and a wiki-like
attitude to accessing, editing and contributing information. The
latter sounds like a good idea.
When thinking about the types of content we could have, I can make a
separation between on-going updated structured sets of information -
which one could call guides - and short, one-page articles with a
variety of content that can be classified like how to's, quick tips or
anything else that people might care about.
Guides:
* Structured and ordered according to topic
* Coherent whole
* Ongoing updates
* A central planning when it comes to structuring the information
Quickies:
* One-page how to's, tips or anything other when it comes to using Haiku
* Can be updated, but can also become obsolete (and then should be archived)
* Alternative categorizations, based on tagging and search
* More free when it comes to the range of topics.
All pages would feature open editing, though the guides probably have
editors watching over them.
Now when I think about how to organize this, I think Drupal is a good
choice because:
* it features all the organizational paradigms mentioned (guides are
books, the CCK + View module allow for categorization of quickies)
* it can be organized to have wiki-like editing properties [1]
* the knowledge on running and customizing it is in-house
* theming is easy, we can make a variant of the current theme
* there should be a way to share user accounts with our current system
Any thoughts?
Regards,
N>
