Just wanted to plop this on the table...
In the Haiku User Groups thread*1, the majority of voiced opinions
leaned towards HUGs and other for-Haiku sites to have a similar theme
that is distinguishable from the Project's website theme (eg, easy to
realize that it is not the official project site) These are some of
the people who voiced that thought : myself, Axel, Giuseppe, Andrea,
Charlie Clark, Ben Allen, Nickos V
Currently, the HAIKU Japan website is using an extremely similar
theme*2 Some notable differences include a different logo, different
download graphic, different location for the search box, and the
addition of a leaf icon in the upper-left as a type of site-link menu.
While Jorge granted "irrevocable permission to use the theme to the
Haiku Project as they wish.", the theme is still his and I'm not sure
if its appropriate to request the HAIKU Japan website theme to be
altered.
Of course, another option is to make a new theme, which takes
inspiration from the current theme's visual design and Haiku at large.
On a side note, looking at the google translation of haiku-jp.org, it
does not mention that Haiku(TM) is a trademark of Haiku, Inc., simply
:
{{{ Copyright 2010 HAIKU Japan. "HAIKU Japan" HAIKU Japan has rights
to the logo. I use the icons Haiku. }}} Granted, this is an automatic
translation, but it is clear that Haiku(TM) is not being attributed to
Haiku, Inc.
The hyperlink of Haiku, Inc. on http://www.haiku-jp.org/about
redirects to a non-published/non-accessible page:
