Indeed - I just looked at the past financial reports (BTW, thanks for updating them with the newer layout!) Sadly, the main reason it will cost so much is that it is so far away for me. For the bay area shows (LinuxWorld/OpenSourceWorld) I usually drive down and stay with my sisters, saving most of the lodging cost. > Though in general I do hope these conferences are worth the > investment. So far each conference I've attended has yielded a lot of excitement from visitors - and I think it definitely makes the project look more official and real. This presence legitimizes Haiku and lets people know that we're serious about the project and what it is about. It also provides an opportunity for "networking". For example, I have spoken with the people from Coverity at several shows now - and David Maxwell asked me recently if I was going to be at SCaLE this year. This gives us an opportunity to "bond" with other projects and organizations who are using these conferences to do their own networking and marketing. These are hidden bonuses that come from attending the shows. > I'll finish up some more clean-up work on the financial reports in the > next few days so other people can have a better look and overview of > conference costs in the past.
