Selecting and applying changes to the alpha4 branch is a manual
process. The release manager goes over all commits to the master branch
and selects what to apply to alpha4. Including "+alpha4" in a commit
message is supposed to help him with that, but it doesn't mean a thusly
flagged commit will be included or vice-versa.
I think Ryan does this about every weekend. Let's see if our commits
are in the next alpha4 batch.
