As it happened to you, I guess I'm also being called to reply.
If there's a rule defined, and it's still defined then I don't think I
should be the one to ask for it to be removed or bent. Also, as there was no
discussion about it (that I could find), it surely makes sense to most of
the people involved. I specifically told you that there was no one else and,
the fact that I solely did the HTA translation should've given you a hint
about the current state of things.
If, by some strange reason, I had asked for the rules to be bent or to
discuss it. We would have a huge thread like this and I could bet that it
wouldn't go anywhere, since the only person who really sees what I mean and
thinks alike is Jorge. So all we'd end with was more arguing and supposed
personal attacks, things that I'm frankly fed up of.
As Jorge said, Haiku is not a huge project with hundreds or thousands of
contributors. You should "take advantage" of anything you can get your hands
on, as as I've said before: Some lousy work is better than no work at all
since in the end the worst you can end up having to do is do it all again.
If it was a waste of time, surely it was of the person who did the lousy
work, since if that person hadn't done a thing, the work would have to be
done from the start anyways. If you have to bend rules, do it.
I did the pt_PT translation of the HTA and surely I complained a lot about a
lot of stuff. There are terms repeated inside the same applications,
sometimes even large phrases; the source English isn't that great to start
with which only makes translating it a bit more difficult. Still, I'm sure
that it is a rock-solid translation with very few, if any, flaws.
I don't see why the User Guide would become anything other than that.
