Anybody given any thought to compressing memory pages in RAM as an alternative to, or complementing, a page file? There seem to be active patents in this area, unfortunately. :/ Lazily searching the web found me these: (not meant as a comprehensive list) 1997 - (WO/1997/023828) MEMORY PAGE COMPRESSION http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?wo=1997023828 2003 - US Patent 6516397 - Virtual memory system utilizing data compression implemented through a device http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6516397/claims.html 2009 - http://www.patents.com/Data-compression-supporting-virtual-memory-management-a-demand-paging-system/US7512767/en-US/ How can page compression be such recent invention(s)? There's got to be prior art. /Jonas.
