I'm fine with either of the proposed solutions, i.e. either switch over app_server to gcc5 now, or branch off soon and switch over the master branch to gcc5h then.

I wouldn't expect trouble with switching app_server to gcc5 in gcc2h - although in the end you never really know until you do it. I'd say, if we encounter any problems with new bugs or instabilities due to it, we just revert it again and go with the other solution.
