Hello All,

I wonder if there are plans for Java port for Haiku? I mean
porting the HotSpot & Class library which are currently in GPL. I know that
it's not good license for Haiku, but Java IS needed and a complete rewrite
of the Class library (HotSpot is easier, but port would also pose a great
challenge to have performance close to that of the original) just to suite
MIT license would need enormous effort.

AFAIK GPL Java may not be included in the default Haiku
distribution because of the license, but nevertheless it would may be
downloaded.

Note also that porting Java would make it possible to run
Scala (my fav. ;) and JRuby and Groovy at least. And lo-o-o-o-ts of existing
Java software.

All the best,

jartur.
