There are definitely many abuse examples on linux based system (though you
can easily turn them off). For example, when a new song is played, a new email
arrived (in case you are subscribed to mailing list it becomes very
annoying), and quite
a few other example.

I think we should/could provide a priority based system information,
where very urgent notification like this one should use OSD, instead
of a simply notification.

Another useful information an OS should notify is when you are running
out of space, though
I'd like to have that information always easily viewable on my desktop.
