Hey guys,
Just curious do my contributions to haiku webkit get counted somewhere 😅
They don't get "counted" but they are appreciated, and so is your work
mentoring students for GSoC.
And for other people it's the work on testing, bug reports triaging and
updating, the time spent
answering questions on the forums or the IRC channel or elsewhere, and so on.
It's clear to me that "number of commit per year" is not the right metric. And
I think we don't need
a metric at all to decide who is a contributor. Some people may have been
inactive for years already,
yet if they'd come back their insight and knowledge would still be just as
valuable.
I think we can afford to be arbitrary and just suggest names on this mailing
list or directly as
commits on Gerrit, or suggest people that they add themselves to the list in
AboutSystem if they
think they should be there. Sounds simple enough and not too risky in terms of
people being denied
access despite valuable contributions (forgetting people is a possibility, and
for that, checking
the commits is a good idea - but it is only one of the many things to check)
