In theory, symlinks are just symlinks.. they point the application in question meaning that you could pick up on the resource fairly easily. Having the category tied to the application binary makes since to me. It is less flexable having it tied to the binary, however the more choices you put in the category sorting, the more room for error. We need to define what the acceptible categories are and lay out some guidelines for application category attributes.
