So, we have just 1 person interested in this? If that's the case, let's
maybe try something different (that was the initial plan actually, but
there was some delay in getting a reply from the organization team).
The Capitole Du Libre (
https://2016.capitoledulibre.org/) is an event
around open source software. You can find booths about various projects
(ranging from 3D printers to video games), as well as conferences
througout the week-end.
We had an Haiku booth there with mmu_man for the last 2 editions and
also gave some talks about Haiku and other things.
It takes place in november, which has several advantages:
- It is about the same time as BeGeistert, so no changes to your usual
routine,
- We have some time to plan things,
- It takes place after GSoC, so we can try to get our GSoC students to
attend and maybe give a talk about their work at the Capitole du Libre
(I'm checking with the organizers if talks in english are ok -
otherwise we'll setup some live dubbing ;))
The idea is to have the sprint before or after the event. The
organization team will help me setting this up, finding a suitable place
to host us, etc.
However, I need to know how many persons are interested in attending.
Please raise your hand if you are, so we can see how large a room we
need to book. Depending on the cost of the rooms, if is is cheaper than
Düsseldorf youth hostel, I would suggest that Haiku, inc and/or HSA
considers funding travel expenses for people attending it, and in
particular for GSoC students. I think meeting the students in real life
this way can help a lot in making them long term contributors, so it can
be worth the cost.
There is also an "install party" where people come to get their Windows
PC converted to some free software operating system. If we have a beta1
ready, it may be an opportunity to spread it to unsuspecting users.
