I really like this, and consider it a feature. It is present in Linux
Mint (which Gabriele mentioned), and I am quite used to the behavior.
Like others mentioned, it is nice to open straight to a given
directory, especially when it is quite nested. Going back to the home
directory is trivial, and I never see myself getting irked about
Terminal not opening straight to Home. I do get mildly irritated
though when I'm on a different system and opening a new terminal tab
doesn't take me straight to the cwd of the previous tab. I mean, I
could live with things either way, but I think the way it's
implemented now on Haiku and some other systems is the way to go.
