I think it would be better for Haiku to *suggest* a standard for
folders, and applications can create them when needed. It should still
be configurable by the user of course.

The important thing here would be some (C) API or environment variables to retrieve such folder locations. Otherwise applications or libraries (e.g., glib 2.15) need to hardcode them, which leads to "imposing".
