Thanks for the information. But how "final" is this proposed layout? It
seems like it's extremely inspired by the Mac's "bundle" structure, which is
good for deploying applications that are self-contained, but not for an
universal package format to be used in an operating system for a long period
of time.

Let's say that I was to create a PDF containing a draft for a complete
package management system (of course respecting the work already put into
the system such as the bundle format etc, as mentioned on the Wiki), could I
put it up for review on this list, even if it deviates quite a lot (but not
completely) from what the Wiki says? Would it be accepted, probably not
as-is, but at least as input to the package management discussion?
