Slightly off topic, probably wrong email chain, and in reality an R2 thing,
but I'd like to plant a seed in the collective mind.  Let the idea ferment
and mature, and when you least expect it, you'll remember reading something
about it years ago on some mailing list ...

 One thing that frustrates me with patches is that it's difficult to revert
to an older version (especially with modern applications which insist on
auto-updating).  A nice ilttle /patches/component/version directory would be
interesting to have, and a loader which actually inspects these directories
first before loading the actual component from its native location.  Of
course, there would be some optional interface which allows you to select
which patch you'd like to avoid. Let the idea ferment in your minds ...

And now back to your regular scheduled program ...
