Just so you know, WebKit is removing non-SSE2 support completely.
This means WebKit will crash on 32bit CPUs without SSE2.
What should we do?
- Add a test to WebKit so it exits cleanly when this happen, rather than
crashing?
That would be nice, yes.
- Stop supporting non-SSE2 systems altogether? (this is everything up to Penium
III and Athlon XP included)
That would be my choice. Maybe we can find out how many people would be
affected? A poll somewhere? There is however the risk that someone who
is affected is not in close touch with the project and only learns about
this long after we've made a decision. A poll may still give us some
impression of how many people run Haiku on such old hardware.
In any case, I guess we cannot have both: Strive to support current
hardware, stay updated with external software projects such as WebKit,
and on the other hand, keep supporting ancient hardware.
