I use Java in embedded systems in my daily work, without underlying 
operating system, and it gets good results when done right. Like anything 
else.

For years everything was written in assembly language, and some programs 
where a big mess of spaghetti code, others were not. No matter how many 
features your language offers, it can be used in all kind of wrong ways.
