According to Linus, git is extremely fast and secure compared to anything else. 
He is of course biased, but also sounds pretty convincing.

He recommends keeping modules in separate repositories, though. E.g. do not put 
Web+ in the same repo as the OS because when you want to check out Web+, you 
then get the whole of Haiku with all of its history.
