This was a reproduceable situation. Copy an image to a partition using shell
tools, open tracker at root of drive, crash. Wash, rinse, repeat several
times.

I'm just out here on the periphery looking over your shoulders and tinkering
form time to time, so it didn't immediately occur to me to take
responsibility for the bug and file a report. I'll create a fresh image,
file a bug with a stack trace, and submit the shell script with the report
if it looks like it wasn't something entirely ideosyncratic about copying
from a vdi to a partition - or to this particular machine.

Sorry I was a bit slow on the uptake there.
