Hi,
Google Code In just finished, but the tasks shouldn't be needed. At
http://www.haiku-os.org/guides/ you will find information on how to
compile Haiku, which would be a good way to start for most of our
upcoming GSoC projects (they often involve modifying the OS itself).

There are two series of books from DarkWyrm. The first is called
"learning to program with Haiku" and targets people without much
experience in C++ programming.

The second one is called "Programming the Haiku Operating System" and
assumes some knowledge of the C++ language. Maybe it is more useful to
you. It can be found here as a series of blog articles linking to
lessons in PDF format:

Don't worry about the apparently strange numbering of the chapters. As
mentionned here, the missing chapters are mostly rewritten and expanded
