Hi,

Am 14.03.2019 um 10:08 schrieb Adrien Destugues:

14 mars 2019 09:41 "Stephan Aßmus" <superstippi@xxxxxx> a écrit:
In the first chat log, I saw Barret discussing whether file attributes are
such a good design (a valid question, especially when thinking about going
multi-user!), and the
discussion was technical and civilized the whole time.

I think it wasn't. But I'll be the first to admit that it gets very emotional
for me, and my reactions
are irrational.

I may have missed an important bit...

I'm worried that it got that far, however.

You have a point there.

[...]
However, I do not get to insulting waddlesplash as "who is this child?". This
is not a nice thing
to say of one of our most active developers, who is working hard to fix bugs
and willing to learn
from his mistakes.

Yes, the reaction is immature. Also trying to revert all his commits.

You can read the pdf that Kallisti5 posted. Barrett manages to tick an
impressive amount of boxes in
it: conspiracy theories, denying code review (things has gone better there
because he removed himself
from the mailing list here and everyone gave up on reviewing this code - not a
sane solution), endless
discussions on minor details, etc.

I agree. It's just that those last incidents wouldn't be bad enough for me.

I am with Axel in my impression that things have improved, and what happened
just now, would not
justify "banning" someone for me. I think that everyone, perhaps especially
Adrien, should consider
the fact that they may perceive what is being said by others with prejudice.
They need to make an
effort to look just at what is being said, and try not to read to much
intention into it.

I tried, but it is not possible anymore. I get physically bad whenever I have
to talk with Barrett.
To the point that I just leave and go to bed in such cases. There is nothing
more I can do about it
on my side. I made an effort to let my emotions aside the last time a ban was
suggested, but that was
a mistake.

Thank you for being so honest about your feelings in such a public place. Well, I think we should not ignore how you feel. And I think it is much more Barrett's fault that it came this far than anyone else's.

The other day a reporter wanted to ask me a couple of questions about Haiku, and you were the first that came to my mind who would be much better suited to represent the project. You have always been nice, very helpful, and your code contributions have become very solid, IMHO. And they are all over the project. You understand the Haiku spirit very well. If the situation is so bad for you and banning Barrett is the only way to resolve it, then I definitely support you. And that's not supposed to mean that I don't find the banning solution reasonable myself, it just wouldn't be "bad enough" for me, yet, but I can definitely see the reasons.

Best regards,
-Stephan
