Imperfect is better than completely opposite and confusing.

Except there clearly isn't universal agreement that it's "opposite and
confusing”.
It’s not a small minority that find it confusing either.  We should be
encouraging new developers and making learning of a new API as easy as possible.

If we're going to change the name of it, and consequently
refactor everything using it, it IMO needs to be a noteworthy
improvement, which to me is a bar that none of the suggested
alternatives meet
The floor is still open for suggestions.

Furthermore, I'm not a huge fan of API design by
popularity contest, since it's pretty much the epitomy of
bikeshedding.
Then we can go with a simple change/don’t change poll and leave the particulars
to the API maintainer.  Set a time frame to end discussion.  We have 9 for
changing right now.
